I, Too, Sing

I, too, sing

These are the words of our great American poet Langston Hughes. The poem “I, Too” is also known as “I, Too, Sing America,” and it was initially titled “Epilogue” when it appeared in The Weary Blues in 1926. Here, alongside those words are the photographs of a young American photographer, David Flores, steadily and quietly doing his work in the world. He has an ongoing project happening at DY Prep high school in the Bronx, New York. He is brilliantly photographing our next generation. The words of Langston Hughes never get old—fortunately and unfortunately. The work of David Flores is a cannon of truth in this life, timely and necessary. He is paying close attention—refusing distraction—staying woke, and so should we.
